The Chakras

A very brief introduction to the Chakras and psychic centers.

Background on the chakras

I assume that most of you are familiar with the “chakras” (as they are called in eastern and/or new age parlance), but to make sure we’re all working form a common base of information, let me include a little background.

The subtle energy system of the human body is fed by a series of “vortexes.” These are like “wheels of light” (if you could see them with the naked eye) and serve a dual purpose: to channel prana (chi, orgone, etc.) into the body and to serve as the seat for different “extra” sensory types of perception.

The chakras correspond to the ganglial nerve plexuses (plexi?) and the major glands of the endocrine system.

The heart chakra, for instance, corresponds to the thymus gland and is, as we all know, the seat of the Christ consciousness.

Different systems place them in slightly different parts of the body and attribute different qualities to them – but the most common system says that there are seven major centers (and numerous minor centers). They are:

1) Root (base of spine). Survival, Creation.
2) Sex (just below the belly button). Sex. Procreation. Duh.
3) Power (Solar Plexus). Force. Will. Intention.
4) Heart (middle of chest). Love. Compassion: Peace.
5) Throat (just above the adam’s apple - assuming you have one). Communication. Creativity. Expression
6) Third Eye (middle of forehead). Perception. Psychic sight.
7) Crown (top of head). Transcendence.

Here’s a link with a very nice overview:

They rotate clockwise (when viewed from outside the body).

Except for the crown and root, you have two of each chakra: one in the front and one in the back. So, for instance, you have a heart chakra between your shoulder blades, as well as one in the front.

They are exactly as far apart as the distance between the tip of your thumb and the tip of your little finger when you spread your fingers as wide as they’ll go. This is kinda cool. Put your thumb right up on the very crown of your head (“Careful with his little fontanel!”*) and then drop your little finger as far down onto your forehead as you can. It’ll hit you right in the third eye. You can just keep going like that – marking the center of each chakra.

Why do you need to know this? Because we have been charged with awakening the American group mind and aspects of this group consciousness correspond to these levels of perception in the individual. So, while the American race mind doesn’t have a literal third eye the way that we do as individuals, the race mind does possess a level of perception or awareness that is analogous to it.
